His story
Thamūd carved secure homes into the mountains of al-Ḥijr. Ṣāliḥ was well respected among them and they had hoped he would be their leader — until he called them to worship Allah alone. Then they turned away.
They demanded a sign, and Allah gave them a she-camel with a clear right: she would drink on one appointed day and they on another, and they were warned not to harm her. For a time they held back; then the most wretched of them hamstrung her.
Ṣāliḥ told them to enjoy three more days. On the third the punishment came — a mighty blast that left them lifeless in their fortified homes. Allah rescued Ṣāliḥ and those who believed with him.
