His story
Dhū al-Kifl is named twice in the Qur'an, each time in the company of great prophets and each time praised for patience and excellence. The commentators differ over the details of his life; what is certain is Allah's testimony about his character.
The name is understood to mean 'the one who took on a guarantee' — a man who committed himself to a responsibility and kept it. His short mention is a reminder that Allah records the faithfulness of those whose stories the world never told.
